Major Gardens was established in 2008 by Jonathan Major, following several years working with award-winning landscaping firms across London. That experience laid the foundations for how we work today, providing a practical understanding of how gardens are designed, built and maintained over time.
Our Approach
We begin each project by taking the time to understand the space and the people we are designing it for. From there, we make careful decisions on layout, structure, planting, and materials, always working toward something that functions well, meets a high standard, and remains suited to its use as time goes on. We work with natural materials and bring a considered approach to planting, focusing on structure, balance, and ease of maintenance.
How We Work
We take each project from first ideas through to completion, following a clear and well-managed process along the way. It starts with a site visit and a detailed discussion about the space, how it will be used, and what you are looking to achieve. We use that to develop the design and layout, advise on materials, and plan the build and planting in a way that suits the brief and the conditions of the garden.
All work is carried out to a consistent standard, and we can provide ongoing maintenance if needed once the project is finished.

We’ve been designing and building gardens for over 20 years, and that experience gives us a practical understanding of how outdoor spaces are put together and how they develop over time. As a family-run business, we take a hands-on approach to every project, with Jonathan closely involved from the first site visit through to the finished result. We bring the same level of care and consistency to every job, regardless of size or budget.
Areas We Cover
We are based in South East London and carry out work across the surrounding areas, including Forest Hill, Dulwich, Crystal Palace, Lewisham, Sydenham, Herne Hill, East Dulwich, Penge, Beckenham, and Bromley. We also work further afield across Kent and other parts of London and the South East.
